Giacomo Puccini, one of the greatest opera composers, the Titan of Opera, from the late 19th Century to the early 1920's, he composed twelve operas, many of which are still performed in opera houses and other venues throughout the world today. We will discuss various characteristics and elements of the best operas: La Boheme, Madama Butterfly, Tosca and Turandot. You will see and hear clips of opera performances on DVDs. Before viewing an opera DVD, you will learn about the composer, setting, cast and a synopsis of the opera. Following each video presentation, we will discuss the music, orchestra and the opera singers' vocal techniques, acting and staging.
