Arabic - Intermediate 1

Prerequisite: Beginners III or equivalent knowledge. We will work on developing further the four communication skills (speaking, reading, listening, and writing) in Arabic, adding themes related to daily life orally and in writing. The class is interactive where the instructor is a facilitator to learning, encouraging students’ participation and involvement in their learning process. The textbook is Al-Kitaab for Beginning Arabic, Part One, Kristen Brustad, Third Edition, Georgetown University Press — focusing on lesson four. The book can be rented or purchased on VitalSource.com. However, buying/renting the book is OPTIONAL, as the instructor will provide the material used in class through Google docs. Other resources will be used as well to practice speaking in the Levantine dialect. There will be an extra OPTIONAL in-person meeting the fourth week of the class in a public place, to practice what we have learned, and a dinner at a Mediterranean restaurant towards the end of the class, if there is enough interest.
